Moab 2K+1: Story and Photos...
Day 7:

Picture: Sunday morning, a Porsche with two road bikes on top as we drive into SF.

Picture: On a Sunday morning, the roads in downtown SF were empty. Let me repeat that: empty. (it probably helped that this was at about 7:30am)

Picture: In Chinatown, Ray's buying a newspaper for his dad.

Picture: We took this opportunity to drive down Lombard Avenue, the crazy street. Ray hopped out and took a photo. Marc's in the backseat, and I'm waving from the driver's seat.

Picture: Our urban ride through SF. The Golden Gate Bridge is in the background.

Picture: Marc takes his bike down two flights of stairs to impress the spectators.

Picture: Same deal.

Picture: At the end of the stairs, the spectators cheered him on and tried to get him to do the wide railing. Marc declined.

Picture: The three of us on a walkway near Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge in the background.

Picture: At the end of Fisherman's Wharf, we took the opportunity to call home. Marc's on the phone right now.

Shortly North of San Francisco we stopped for lunch and gas. Went to a Jack in the Box. As with the last time I went to a JitB, it was disappointing. At some point, we switched drivers and Ray drove and I got a chance to sleep. Before I got to sleep, though, we decided to go out to the coast (currently we were on the I-5) and stay overnight in Redwood State Park (Marc had wondered where Redwood Park was while we were driving through the redwood forest the previous afternoon). In Redding, CA, we tried to get onto a road that would take us to the coast. Ray was driving at the time. We missed a turn while going through the city. My poor clutch-- Ray was having some troubles with it... I switched back and drove us out of the town, then let Ray drive some more (I was tired and Ray hadn't been doing a bad job-- just painful within the city). We killed a *lot* of bugs on our way towards Redwoods State Park. The first camping turnoff in Redwoods took us to a road that a herd of elk were crossing (quite a sight!), and then to a 6-mile-long dirt road. Nope-- no in my fully-loaded car. We continued on to the next campsite, which was quite nice-- this park had some of the greatest amenities I've ever seen in a park. The campground has *great* coin-operated showers. We started setting up camp at 10PM.

Picture: The next morning, a photo of our campsite.
