Macross Plus

First off, the copyrights:
Macross Plus is copyright: Shoji Kawamori; Big West/Macross Plus Project. Music by Yoko Kanno. Licensed for distribution in North America by Manga Entertainment, Inc.

This is one of my favourite animes! The first anime I ever saw, and it doesn't fail to impress me every time I watch it. Even the dub is good! The animation is superb, attention to detail is excellent; just take a look at the backgrounds on the image pages. The action is really well done, and I actually felt the plights of the main characters in the feature.

Macross Plus is available as either a four-part OAV (dub/sub), or a movie edition (sub). The movie edition contains footage not shown in the OAVs, but also has had some footage cut out. My personal preference is the OAV series, although both are EXCELLENT. I feel that the OAV series has a slightly smoother feel to it, and the end of each episode works well for suspense; I first watched Macross Plus on TV, and was waiting (desperately?) for the next episode. Of note is that I haven't yet seen the fourth OAV; when TeleTOON was showing Macross Plus, the fourth edition had not yet been released for broadcast.

Here's the summary from the Movie Edition box:

In 2040 AD on the colonial planet Eden, the Ministry of Defense is testing transforming super-stealth aircraft to counter alien attacks. Join in on the action when rival pilots Isamu and Guld battle for aerial supremacy and the affections of the beautiful Myung. This dramatic, visually superb and complex Japanimation feature is certain to become a favourite with Manga fans everywhere.
